LASER RESURFACING
A laser is delivered through a computer controlled device that automatically scans the area of skin being treated. Physicians can control the ablation and coagulation depth for either light or deep peels. As we age, the effects of sun damage and environmental pollutants take their toll on our skin, causing it to wrinkle, develop sun spots and look tired. A Sciton skin resurfacing procedure can reverse these effects and restore a healthy look to the skin. There are two approaches to resurfacing: full field and fractional. In full field resurfacing, the entire surface area of the skin is treated. A laser beam is scanned across the treatment area and precisely removes a layer of skin. The body will naturally replace the old, damaged skin that was removed, with a fresh, healthy layer. Treatments can range from shallow (which might be appropriate for eliminating fine lines, sun spots, and tired-looking skin) to deep (which is often used to improve skin tone/texture and eliminate deep wrinkles, even in difficult areas like upper lip lines and crow’s feet), and acne scarring. In fractional resurfacing, the laser removes pinpoint columns of skin, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This approach allows the laser to controllably ablate and coagulate tissue to variable depth, while the surrounding intact tissue promotes rapid healing.

A new study recently published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology shows that Sciton BroadBand Light (BBL™) treatments can change the expression of genes associated with the aging process to more closely resemble young skin. The study supports the hypothesis that regulators of aging can be altered in human skin using BBL technology to provide a functional change, rather than just a cosmetic mimic of youthful appearance. BBL treatments promote the appearance of youthful skin. This study reveals that the appearance of younger skin may be due to the differences observed in gene expression patterns of aged skin becoming more like young skin. Treatments from the study were performed on the FDA-cleared Sciton Joule using the BBL module.

ACNE TREATMENTS
Acne is a disorder resulting from the action of hormones and other substances on the skin’s oil glands, sebaceous glands and hair follicles. Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) are the anaerobic bacterium that causes acne. Severe acne can lead to permanent scarring. The resurfacing laser creates a wound-healing process producing fibroblasts that generate new collagen, plumping the skin and correcting skin imperfections.

PIGMENTED LESIONS
BBL BroadBand Light technology will effectively treat sun damaged skin. The light energy delivered by the BBL will gently be absorbed by the unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions in the upper layers of the skin. Over the next few days the pigmented lesions will darken and fall off. A series of 4 treatments is recommended with each treatment approximately 4 weeks apart. Face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs are all areas that can be treated.

CAN FOREVER YOUNG BBL REALLY STOP THE CLOCK ON THE APPEARANCE OF AGING SKIN?
No, nothing will stop the aging process. However, a long-term clinical study showed favorable results. Patients received regular BBL treatments over the course of a decade. At the end of the study, doctors judged the patients to appear 11 years younger than their actual age. In other words, they looked younger than when the study began.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Any area of your body can be treated. The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight. Most people ask for treatments on the face, neck, back of the hands, chest, and shoulders.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient, and your clinician will personalize a plan based on the level of improvement you desire. Your clinician may also combine your treatment with other popular aesthetic procedures to optimize your results.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE PROCEDURE?
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. Typically, there is no need for a topical anesthetic, however your clinician may choose to use one on more sensitive areas.
You may feel a quick, warm sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type of procedure performed.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECOVER?
This is a noninvasive and gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. In most cases, you are able to apply makeup, return to work and resume most of your activities immediately.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER THE TREATMENT?
You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated area followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, pores will be less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments, and the area treated. Your clinician will provide you with complete information about the post treatment care and results.
WHAT AFTERCARE PLAN DO I NEED?
It is important to follow your clinician’s treatment plan. You may be given skin care products and instructions on how to use them. You will be sensitive to ultraviolet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until completely healed. Fully cover your treated skin or use a good sunscreen when ever you go outdoors.
Effective Hair Reduction
HAIR REMOVAL
Laser or light energy is selectively absorbed by the melanin in hair follicles and converted to heat, diffusing to and injuring stem cells in the bulb and bulge. Effective hair reduction can only be achieved during the active growth phase and hair reduction is considered permanent when a significant amount of hair does not return for a period of time longer than the complete growth cycle. After a series of treatments, most hair is permanently removed. However, if hair does regrow it will be finer and lighter than before. Here are before and after pictures. We offer our hair removal treatments per area as a package of 5 treatments each.
Reduce Vascular Lesions
ROSACEA/VASCULAR CONDITIONS
Laser or light energy is selectively absorbed by the oxyhemoglobin resulting in heating of the blood vessels. With the correct wavelengths and fluence, the vascular lesion will be heated to above 70°C. At that temperature, blood vessels will break down and shrink which leads to a reduction of the vascular lesion. The treatment is customized per patient. This type of treatment would include Rosacea, some veins, and cherry angiomas.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?
Halo is a complete skin rejuvenation treatment. You will see improvements in overall tone and texture in addition to significant removal of discoloration, reduction in fine lines*, reduced pore size, skin reflectivity, and glow.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO YOU NEED?
What is great about Halo is that you can choose how many treatments you want! Discuss with your clinician your needs and you can choose to have one or two more aggressive treatments or have multiple treatments that are less aggressive and achieve a similar goal over a longer period of time.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TREATMENT?
Thirty minutes to an hour before the treatment your physician may place a topical ointment on your skin to reduce the sensation during the treatment. Your clinician will then measure your face with motion tracking technology to ensure your face is treated evenly. The clinician will treat a section of your face at a time by rolling the Halo handpiece in a crisscross pattern until the system recognizes the treatment is complete.
WHAT DOES HALO FEEL LIKE?
With a topical anesthetic and integrated cooling technology, most patients experience very little discomfort. Most patients describe the treatment as a feeling of heat with occasional prickling sensations, but are generally comfortable. After the treatment, most patients will continue to feel warm for an additional 15 to 30 minutes.
HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?
Your Halo results will last for years to come, but you should continue to keep your skin protected at all times using UV sunscreen to protect your new, healthy skin. Each additional Halo treatment you get will only improve the results, giving you even better looking skin.
CAN I RETURN TO NORMAL ACTIVITIES AFTER MY TREATMENT?
Absolutely. For the first 24 hours you should keep your skin protected according to your clinician’s instructions, but after that you should be able to go about your normal activities. After the first 24 hours your skin will begin to peel, but you will be able to put on makeup. For a facial treatment, you will see very little change on the first day. After two to three days you will develop a light bronzing appearance. By day three or four your skin will peel, revealing your new skin beneath.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
You will see initial results between two and five days after your Halo treatment, but your skin will continue to improve over time. Most patients see the greatest pigmentary improvement in the first two to three weeks. This is followed by a dermal regeneration phase that continues to improve for months.
